We perform using a 'Direct In' setup with no physical amplifiers on stage. We provide our own In-Ear Monitoring (IEM) system; therefore, no floor monitors (wedges) are required. X32 Rack is our dedicated stage mixer.
For the Front of House (FOH) mix, there are 3 possible configurations:
- Option 1: 'Direct In' signals from pedalboards (Guitars + Bass) + Vocals via X32 (XLR). Drums to be miked separately by the venue.
- Option 2: Vocals + Guitars + Bass sent as individual XLR outputs from our X32. Drums to be miked separately by the venue.
- Option 3 (Small venues): Main FOH mix sent directly from our X32 via two XLR cables (Left & Right only).
Zator, pronounced “Sator”, is an emergent progressive/metal band from Namur, Belgium. The band blends powerful, complex, and groovy riffs with the clear, ethereal vocals of its female singer, punctuated by raw and impactful screams. Zator was built on the foundations of Venice 85, that already released a full album in 2021. In 2023, the project's line-up and intentions changed, leading to the birth of “Zator”, in reference to the Sator square, a mystical palindrome dating back to antiquity.
Zator has taken advantage of the concept of this square to build its identity, playing on its multiple meaning. In Sator's square, several terms can be read and interpreted within the same semantic field. Similarly, the band aims, while preserving its own identity, to compose in several styles: one colour per album
Alizarin, the first one, is RED, a vibrant blend of Groove Metal and Progressive Metal.
The second, not out yet, will be BLUE, diving into darker and more expansive atmospheres, closer to Post-Metal.
Zator is a Progressive Metal band whose essence lies in exploring the multifaceted nature of the genre and its various subgenres. Its five core musicians are merely the heart of the "Zator" entity. Much like a Tarot deck, the project is composed of a multitude of "cards" to be played according to its vital needs. Every card is at the service of the vision: members may shift and change as one would swap cards in a hand.
Beyond the five core members, a constellation of collaborators orbits and breathes life into the project, integral parts of a body that allow it to move, think, speak, and express itself. Graphic designers, sound engineers, producers, stage managers, sculptors, and more.
Standing against the tide of "modern" artificiality, Zator is an authentic, "home-made" endeavor seeking a true, handcrafted art form. From its production to its visual identity, Zator is built through the sweat and toil of every hand involved, even when aided by contemporary tools. The sound strives for an analog soul, favoring the warmth of tube amplification and microphones pushed against speaker grilles over the cold compression of today's digital standards. The visual identity is equally tactile, sketched on paper before being digitized and refined by hand.
In an era where art is being displaced by tools like Artificial Intelligence, we felt it was vital to create a human project, made by humans for humans, to return to the roots of what moves us.
The themes we explore are universal. Our first EP, Alizarin, uses the prism of alchemy to tell the story of man-made creations spiraling out of control and turning against their creators. The second EP will be a new search for meaning, a path to be forged, and a reconstruction following the destruction of the first EP, a blank page.
